Musten & Crutchfield's History

In 1938, John Musten and Dace Crutchfield opened Musten & Crutchfield in Kernersville, NC, with a simple goal: to offer quality, affordable groceries and friendly service to their neighbors. What started as a small local store has grown into a multi-generation, family-owned business that’s been part of daily life in Kernersville for more than 85 years.

Over the decades, one of the things we’ve become best known for is our pimento cheese. Made fresh in our own kitchen using our original recipe, many customers have called it the “World’s Best.” We’re proud that so many people enjoy it and have asked us to share it beyond our shelves. Today you’ll find our pimento cheese in stores, restaurants, and markets within a 50-mile radius of Kernersville.

We still believe in the same things we always have: good food, fair prices, and taking care of our customers. We work hard to bring you the best of North Carolina — from local produce to products from small farms and artisans across the region. If it’s made or grown in NC and it’s good, there’s a good chance you’ll find it here.

More than anything, Musten & Crutchfield is about community. Whether you stop in to grab staples, try something new, or just catch up with neighbors, we want our store to feel like home.
